Face to Face

When parents, teachers, and social workers can no longer reach the young people, personal contact with our project leaders can. In many cases, they have similar life stories and are thus able to create a connection "on equal terms."

Often, these young people can no longer listen, nor do they want to. They are deaf to advice and reject any intervention from adults. They are "trapped" in their own world. Often, they feel they belong to a group that has experience with drugs and violence.

Our project leaders are very familiar with this environment from their own life experiences. Experience has shown that young people are willing to listen when our project leaders initiate a conversation. We might take them for a walk or even out for kebabs or pizza. After an initial conversation, a decision is made jointly with the young person and the referring staff whether further conversations are desired.

The aim is for the young people to listen to the credibility of our project leaders and thus begin to reflect on how they deal with their lives and to take consequences more seriously.
